National Children’s Day

Every year on the second Saturday of January people all over Thailand come together to celebrate “Wan Dek”, or National Children’s Day. Children’s Day is observed nationwide in order to give children the chance to have fun and realize their importance in the development of the country. After all, children are the future!

Organizations from all over Chiang Khong came together to create booths and put on shows for Sathan’s Children’s Day party. Children and their families joined us to participate in the activities, raffles, and games on Saturday. Center for Girls joined our partner CRPC to make two booths – one a photo booth, the other a game booth – for the children to enjoy.

Days such as this are so important to remind children everywhere how valued they are. Today, over 200 million children are child laborers. The exploitation of children is one of the greatest roadblocks to human rights around the world. According to the 2015 TIP Report, 2/3 of identified trafficking victims were children. With Programs like Child Protection in Schools and Prevention Child Trafficking & Abuse, Center for Girls’ goal is to give children the tools they need to combat child abuse, exploitation, and slavery. Children are the future, and we have hope for a better and brighter future.
