Child Protection – What Are We Doing?

Center For Girls Foundation (CFG) have recently been involved in several activities as part of our Project to Empower the Community and Develop Local Mechanisms for the Protection of Children. The purpose of the project is to ensure that children in the three border districts of Chiang Rai (Chiang Khong, Chiang Saen, and Vieng Kaen), are safe from all forms of violence.

Child Protection Committee

Over the past two months, we have been meeting with local administration organizations (LAOs) in many sub-districts in Chiang Khong and Chiang Saen. We are working with the LAOs to ensure their child protection committees are fully functioning (under Thai law, each sub-district must have a committee). In some districts, this means re-establishing an existing but non-functioning committee. In other districts, we are helping them to create a new child protection committee.

Training Workshop for New Volunteers

We recently hosted a training workshop, meeting with new child protection volunteers from communities in the Chiang Saen and Chaing Khong districts. The workshop allowed us to get to know the volunteers, discuss the situation of the children in their communities, discuss children’s rights, and discuss forms of violence.

Using Social Media to Increase Child Participation

We made a video campaign to increase child participation with children in the local community. The video is up on our Instagram and Facebook pages.
